The Circular Economy (CE) approach is one essential contribution to a more sustainable, low-carbon, resource-efficient and competitive economy. The elective subject is designed as an introduction to the topic of Circular Economy Towards a Sustainable Port and provides the basic concept of CE, exploring visions and business opportunities, in particular the impact of CE on society. This course will furthermore discuss the interconnection between Circular Economy approaches and its potential in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development This elective will be delivered using a mixed mode of online and in-class learning. This subject will enhance the students’ knowledge of CE through expert-run sessions and will furthermore increase the students’ critical thinking.

This subject is designed for students planning to use an action research strategy in their PhD studies. Action research is an innovative research strategy that allows the

investigation of complex social phenomena; test, verify, reflect upon, and modify innovative interventions by combining different research methods in order to ensure

the most appropriate solutions. The participation of practitioners and researchers presents the possibility of a comprehensive examination of real issues and reduces

the gap between theory and practice. This strategy allowing for systematic intervention can be widely used in maritime and ocean domains for different purposes.

This subject is designed to provide a systematic and comprehensive explanation of action research strategies. The lectures, group workshops, and learner-centered

activities focus on problem-based approaches and are aimed to develop necessary competencies of PhD candidates to apply this strategy in their research.

PhD candidates are required to carry out teaching related to their dissertation topics at some point during their enrolment. Accordingly, this subject is designed to introduce students to teaching and learning in higher education in the 21st century both as a basis for their PhD-related teaching and as a means of developing essential academic skills for the future. The main objective is to introduce key theoretical concepts and the tools and strategies for developing the practical skills relating to teaching, learning, assessment and their organization in higher education settings.

This subject will, in the first instance, be delivered online. However, where a particular cohort of students are resident in Malmö, the delivery will use a blended learning approach (on campus in Malmö).

This subject is designed for students who want to enhance their knowledge of the legal and policy governance structure and tools for the ocean that extend from the local and community level to national, regional, and international levels.

This subject takes a multi-disciplinary approach to examine and analyse coastal and ocean governance, law, policy, management, as well contemporary practical issues. It consists of three interwoven components: the legal framework of the ocean, the negotiation of international instruments, and how to mediate human activities’ impacts on the ocean. In addition, the students will have the opportunity to engage with leading experts and scholars in research seminars to critically analyse and discuss contemporary issues in the ocean and coastal governance, and how to align knowledge with their individual research projects. The topics of the research seminars will be discussed with the students during the course and tailored toward their research interests.
