This subject is designed for students who want to enhance their knowledge of the legal and policy governance structure and tools for the ocean that extend from the local and community level to national, regional, and international levels.
This subject takes a multi-disciplinary approach to examine and analyse coastal and ocean governance, law, policy, management, as well contemporary practical issues. It consists of three interwoven components: the legal framework of the ocean, the negotiation of international instruments, and how to mediate human activities’ impacts on the ocean. In addition, the students will have the opportunity to engage with leading experts and scholars in research seminars to critically analyse and discuss contemporary issues in the ocean and coastal governance, and how to align knowledge with their individual research projects. The topics of the research seminars will be discussed with the students during the course and tailored toward their research interests.
